Trimethylsilyl enol ethers were prepared by using a combination of chlorotrimethylsilane and 1,8-diazabicyclo[5.4.0]undec-7-ene in good yields. Trimethylsilylation of acetylenes was also achieved with the same reagents in the presence of silver salt as catalyst.
