Clinical effects of Saikoseikanto on habitual angina. 1st Report.

In Western modern medicine, tonsillectomy is often required to treat habitual angina, a pathological form of chronic tonsillitis. We used SAIKOSEIKANTO, Chinese medicine, in the treatment of this disease and could prevent its recurrence in about 82% of 11 patients. This percentage is higher than that obtained by other conservative therapies and suggests that SAIKOSEIKANTO is effective in preventing the recurrence of habitual angina.Since the incidence of habitual angina is highest at ages five and six, tonsillectomy may be avoided by tiding over this critical period by some means, and the use of SAIKOSEIKANTO must be regarded as one method of treatment.In this study, we prescribed SAIKOSEIKANTO not in accordance with "Sho (Conformation; the traditional Chinese diagnosis)" but used it for the diagnosed disease, habitual angina, itself. The clinical effects were remarkable, and there were no side effects.
