A study on cefotiam-hexetil transfer to serum and oral tissues.

The transfer of cefotiam-hexetil (CTM-HE) into human serum, gingiva and removed-tooth socket after oral administration of 200mg CTM-HE was studied with time in 30 patients, consisting of 15 males and 15 females. The results were as follows: 1) Serum concentrations at 30, 45, 60, 120 and 180 minutes after CTM-HE administration were 0.31±0.22, 0.62±0.76, 0.66±0.52, 1.00±0.38 and 0.84±0.39μg/ml, respectively. 2) CTM-HE concentrations in removed-tooth sockets ranged from 0.10-1.60μg/ml, and the ratios of removed-toothsocket to serum concentrations were 0.1-1.83 during 30-360 minutes after oral administration. 3) CTM-HE concentrations in gingival tissues were 0.32-2.60μg/g, and the ratios of gingiva to serum concentrations were 0.23-1.89 during 30-360 minutes after oral administration. Based on the above data, CTM-HE is expected to be clinically useful for oral infections.
