The alternation of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) activity in mouse epidermis following intraperitoneal administration of 100 mg glutathione (GSH) was observed. The intraperitoneal administration of GSH produced a temporary increase in the GSH level and LDH activity in the blood. The GSH level in the epidermis increased significantly at the 2nd through 3rd hour postadministration. The LDH activity in the epidermis increased about 2-fold at the 3rd hour. The increase of LDH activity in the epidermis was not observed after administration of 10 mg GSH.The incorporation of [14C] glycine into protein of the epidermis was not accelerated following intraperitoneal administration of GSH. The possible role of GSH to LDH in the epidermis was considered to be a continuous reactivation of LDH.
