Dividing 14 cases with non-A, non-B chronic hepatitis (NANBH) into 3 groups at random, human interferon-β (HuIFN-β) of 1M, 3M and 6M IU/day was administered in each group for consecutive 8 weeks, and comparative test of its dose was prospectively carried out. S-ALT gradually decreased in 3 groups during administration of IFN-β, and low level of s-ALT was noted in the group of 6 MIU during 6 months after treatment, while reelevetion was observed in other 2 groups after treatment. Resulting from that hepatohistological findings were studied by Knodell's HAI score, decreasing tendency of total HAI scores was noted in all groups at the finish of the administration, and tendency recovering to the pre-level was observed in 1M and 3 MIU groups for 6 months after treatment, while further decreased in 6 MIU group. Moreover, serum 2-5AS activity elevated dose-dependently. From of above, it was considered that 6 MIU of HuIFN-β for consecutive 8 weeks is more effective against NANBH than small-dose units.
