Perfect dry cutting (zero emission cutting) is the most suitable manufacturing technology from the standpoint of the ecological machining. In order to achieve a perfect dry cutting, it needs the development of nitride coated film that has an excellent performance for the heat resistant and high impulse resistance property. In this report, the mechanical and tribological properties of several nitride films coated on a plate type specimen were examined under static and dynamic experimental conditions. Static tests were done by a cantilever method. Relationship between the displacement of free end and the strain of back side surface measured by strain gages were examined. As a result, every nitride films decrease the strain of plate, namely, increase the deformation resistance. TiAlCrN coated specimen showed the highest ductility and the lowest friction coefficient in spite of the surface roughness is much rougher than that of non coated specimen.
