The effects of Co-based underlayer on the structural and soft magnetic properties of FeCo film were studied. Introducing a thin Co_<100-y>Fe_y(0≤y≤10) underlayer reduced the coercivity of Fe_<65>Co_<35> thin films remarkably. The typical value is 4πM_s〜24kG, H_<ce>〜10 Oe, H_<ch>〜3 Oe and H_k〜60 Oe. Moreover, smaller coercivity was obtained when the Co content was adjusted from x=35 at.% to 25 at.% in Fe_<100-x>Co_x/Co films. TEM results exhibited that the grain size of Fe_<65>Co_<35> mainlayer were reduced by Co underlayer strikingly. It suggests that the Co-based underlayer is useful in improving the soft magnetic properties of FeCo films by modifying the growth and microstructure.
