Effect of Manganese on the Corrosion Behavior of Chromium-Bearing Amorphous Metal-Metalloid Alloys

The corrosion behavior of chromium-bearing amorphous manganese- and iron-base alloys in various solutions and was studied by using electrochemical and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopic methods. the corrsion resistance of amorphous manganese-base alloys was significantly low. Manganese addition to the amorphous iron-base alloys decreased the corrosion resistance. An XPS study revealed that the manganese addtion makes difficult to highly concentrate the protective species such as chromium ion in the surface film.
