The effect of the twin structure of electrodeposited nickel on the chemical activity was studied by electron microscopy and the electron diffraction method. When nickel films in which twin lamellae were formed suffered corrosion, corrosion pits were found at the terminals of the twin lamellae and the twin boundaries. With progress of the corrosion the whole layers of the twin lamellae were dissolved in a corrosive solution, producing trenches in the films. The edges of the corroded regions are nearly parallel with the directions of the twin lamellae. It is probable that the corrosion takes place at chemically active regions caused by potential difference at the twinning dislocations and the twin boundaries.
