Contribution of Point Defects to Elastic Modulus

Point defects in crystalline solids are known to contribute to the decrease in elastic moduli of host solids through mechanical relaxation. A different mechanism that changes not only the elastic moduli but also the corresponding phonon dispersion relationship through the lattice anharmonicity is proposed to take place, if the concentration of point defects is high and the interaction among them cannot be neglected. The experimental data of the phonon dispersion relationship in the light of this proposal are discussed.
