Application of a Ferroelectric Liquid-Crystal Cell to an Electric Field Sensor

An electric field sensor is prepared using a ferroelectric liquid-crystal cell and optical fiber systems. Transmission light intensity through the cell is modulated by an ac electric field and its amplitude increases in good proportion to the electric field strength (from 〜10 Hz to 5 kHz), covering a wide range from 〜10 V/cm to more than 5kV/cm.
