Visualization of Molecular Orientation by Using a UV-Curable Liquid Crystal

A novel procedure for determination of a molecular orientation state in a liquid crystal (LC) cell is demonstrated using a UV-curable LC. The molecular orientation states are visualized by means of distribution properties of light intensity observed from a cross section of the LC cell. The Freederickz transition and an inhomogeneous orientation near the edge of an electrode in the cross section of the LC cell are visualized using this procedure.
