In the previous paper, 1) the authors explained a proposed method for calculating the racking deformation in the hull cross section of a ship having few transverse bulkheads. By way of example, the authors analyzed the distribution of racking as the shearing deformation in the hull cross section of a Pure Car Carrier designed capable of carrying 3,000 motor cars. In this paper, the authors review the results of theoretical calculation and full scale measurements which they carried out on the racking deformation in hull cross sections of a Roll-on/Roll-off ship built at Nagasaki Shipyard & Engine Works of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries in order to evaluate the accuracy of the prediction made by the proposed calculation method. The results of the theoretical calculation and actual measurements showed a fairly good agreement, and thus the proposed method of calculation was proved to be highly useful in accurately predicting the racking deformation in the hull cross section at the ship design stage.
