Isotope effects of deuterium on photosynthetic metabolism of carbon in Chlorella ellipsoidea were investigated. Photosynthetic fixation of ^<14^gt;C in D_2O was about a half of that in H_2O. Each step in the photosynthetic metabolism of carbon was affected differently by D_2O in the medium and constitutive D.
