After outlining the physiologico-anatomical background of lymphatic systems, the relationships between the various routes of administration and the lymphatic delivery of drugs are discussed. Lymphotropic substances as possible carrier of lymphatic delivery of drugs are also presented. Recently, there has been a developement towards designing increasingly effective lymphatic delivery systems of anticancer agents to obtain a potential treatment for metastasis along the lymphatic passways. The increased lymphatic delivery by various types of oil emulsion and its effect against lymph node metastasis and lymphangioma are reviewed.
