Simple and rapid identification of monosaccharids by gas chromatography was achieved by the application of Curie-point pyrolysis. Almost all monosaccharides were distinguishable under pyrolysis conditions of 358℃ for 3s. Each suger group, e.g. aldohexoses, aldopentoses, deoxysugars, uronic acids, sugar alcohols, and aminosugars, showed a characteristic pyrogram.
