Saccharification of Sweet Sorghum Bagasse by Cellulase : Presented in part at the Akita Meeting, Society of Chemical Engineers

Saccharification of sweet sorghum bagasse by cellulase was studied. Pretreatment with 1% NaOH at 100℃ for one hour was effective to increase the saccharification rate. Total reducing sugar yield reached 78% after a 10-h reaction when the concentrations of cellulase and bagasse were 5 g/l and 6.88 g/l, respectively. The yield of glucose was 61%. The empirical rate equation of Dwivedi and Ghose expressed satisfactorily the saccharification rate.
