Polypropylene glycol (PPG)-assimilating bacteria were isolated by an enrichment culture technique from activated sludge or soil samples. The most suitable strain, No.7,was identified as Corynebacterium species amd its optimal culture conditions were determined. The growth and the PPG-biodegradation were found in the ranges of 20-37℃ and pH 7-9. Eighty per cent of PPG 2000 (M^^-n : 2000,0.3%)was degraded during the 8-day culture. Corynebacterium sp. No. 7 assimilated PPGs(diol and triol trypes, M^^-n : 670-4000) as well as 1,2-propylene glycol and dipropylene glycol, but did not assimilate polythylene glycols at all.
