In order to utilize plating foils made of acid copper and nickel as strain gauges, basic properties of the plating foils are examined under rotating bending loads. The results obtained are as follows : (1) When the final deposited surface of a nickel foil is used as the cementing surface, which is named "the inside foil", applicable test temperatures are within the range of 100〜300℃. (2) When the inside foil of nickel is preheated at a temperature slightly lower than the recrystallization temperature of the foil for a short while, it can be used even at room temperature just as the copper foil. (3) The acid copper or nickel foil consisting of one layer without a basal plating of alkaline copper can give values with sufficient accuracy.
