On the Temperature- and cyclic speed-dependence of the Method of Stress Measurement Using Iron-foils

In the present paper, we intend to apply the method of stress measurement using iron-foils to machine elements subjected to various service loads. Effects of variable temperatures in both high and low temperature ranges and fluctuating speeds of cyclic loads at room temperature on the critical stress of slip-initiation in the iron -foil owing to fatigue are examined. The applicable test temperature range of the present method at low temperatures is also investigated. Based on the test results, stress-concentration factors in notched specimens are obtained at various fluctuating temperatures. It is concluded that the present method can be adopted for the stress measurement at variable temperatures in the range from -90℃ to 400℃ with sufficient accuracy.
