Effect of Hydrostatic Pressure on the Curie Temperature of FeCr_2S_4 and CoCr_2S_4

The pressure derivative of the Curie temperature c1T./dp of FeCr.S. andCoCr.S,? has been obtained from the results of temperature dependence ofinitial permeability under pressure up to 7 kbar. For both compounds, theCurie temperature increases Iinearly with pressure and dT./dp is found to beequal, the values of which are 0.5 K/kbar. The isothermal compressibility ofCoCr.S. has also been studied by means of high-pressure X-ray diffractiontechniques. On the basis of these results, the exchange mechanism of ferri- andferromagnetic chalcogenide spinels is discussed.
