Interntetallic compound La..,Y..,Mn.(lie. with the TltCr.Si,-t)'pe structure is antiferromagnetic (AF) below 7'.=170K and ferromagnetic (F) between T, axcd7'C=340K. Field-induced AF-F transitions are observed at tenaperatures below 170K. Tbe transition field at 4.2 K Is 65 kOe on increasing field. Tlae measurements ofpressure effect on magnetic transition temperatures Sl)OW tltat I. decreases and T. ix't-creases wxth pressure and the F phase disappears at pressures above 8kbar:dT(/dP= -l.2K/kbar, dI./dP=19K/kbar for 7'<8kbar and dT./c1P=5.7K/kbar for P>8 kbar. The thermal expansion measurements show that the latticeconstants a and c i?acreases and decreases discontitauously, respectively, at T. onheating. Spontaneous magnetostriction below T. is positive for both a and c. Theresults show that the magnetic properties is sensitve to the nearest N4n-Mn distance inthe c-plane.[antiferromagnetism, ferromagnetism, magnetic onder-order transition, field-in- lj duced transition, pressure effect, therncal expansionl
