Dynamics and the approximate thernaodynanaical properties of the classicalIsing naodel in a transverse field (CIMTF) are studied. This is done by elucidatinga close correspondence of the CIMTF to a nonlinear lattice field in which eachatom, while coupled harmonically ',vith its neighbours, sits on on-site ;anhar?mo?aicpotential. It is shown that when the ratio of the Ising interaction to ;l transversefield-strength exceeds a certain critical value, the on-site potential is of double-welltype with saturable nonlinearjty. Dounain wall modes and I112g11O]1 modes incontinuous one-dimensional CIMT'F are studied for both systems to :substantiatethe correspondence. By exploiting this, a brief study is made on the approximateproperties of the free energy and of the dynauatical structure factor S(k, e) oflongitudinal spin fluctuations of tl?e CIMTF. These quantities are shown to becoxnposed of two contributions, one frona domain-wall modes and the other froznmagnon naodes, which naanifest tFtenaselves as a central peak and side peaks inS(k, czar, respectively.
