Josephson Effect and Critical Current by Fermion Pairing in Real Space and High-T_c Oxide Superconductors

A pseudospin formulation of superconductivity by fermion pairing in real spaceleads to an effective Hamiltonian of a modified version of a classical X I-like spinsystem in which a local density and a phase are canonical variables. From quantumfluid equations, by which a s;uperconductor can be regarded as a set of coupledmicroscopic Josephson elernents, equations are derived for the rnacroscopicJosephson effect and internal Josephson effects possibly existing in ceramic-type ox-ide superconductors. An exact solution to the quantum-fluid equations corre-sponding to a one-dimensional uniform supercurrent flow is obtained. A maximumsuperconducting current and a critical current are calculated for the Y-Ba-Cu-0system. Both of these are shown to be of the order 10' A/ cm'. This is presumed to bean ideal upper limit of the superconducting current realizable in the Y-Ba-Cu-0system.
