On the Elastic Free Energy of Biaxial Cholesterics

A complete expression of the elastic free energy c>f biaxial clmolesterics is derived interms of quadratic combinations of a spatial gradient of the biaxial tensor orderparameter. As a result of the tensorial description of an isotrojvic scalar quantity, theelastic free energy is found to consist of 12 bulk elastic constants, 3 chiral terms, and3 surface terms under D. symmetry in the Schoenflies notation and expressed in termsof the microscopic order parameters characterising the biaxial molecular ordering aswell as the uniaxial one.elastic free energy, biaxial, cholesterics
