The fundamental features of the h>'rer-Raman scatterins r>henomenon due touaman..inactive mode of lattice vibration have been exrerimentallv studied forSrTi0s, with stecial emr>hasis on rolarization rrorerties and an application ofthe hyper-Rarnan scatterxng t0 observatxon Of the SOft fnOde. The results ofrolarization r>rorerties are comr>ared with the selection rules based on grouptheorv. Variation of the "ferroelectric" soft-mode has been measured as a functionof temr>erature from 300 K to 4.6 K. Further, a comr>arison between the forward.and rixht-annle scatterinxs is :iven from the exr>erimental r>oint of view.
