Radiative Pion Capture in Complex Nuclei

Radiative pion capture in O^<16> is investigated. The effective interaction Hamiltonian and the general formalism of the capture rates are given in parallel with muon capture and electron scattering. The partial capture rates in O^<16> are calculated by the use of the shell model and are found to be consistent with experiment. The observed peak of the gamma-ray spectra is interpreted as the giant resonance similar to that of photoabsorption. The absolute values of the transition rates are predicted in comparison with muon capture reaction.
