Muon Capture in Complex Nuclei of Nonzero Spin : Nuclear Physics

Our theory of muon capture reactions is generalized to include the muon capture in comlex nuclei of nonzero spin. Explicit formulas are given for the partial muon capture rate, Iongitudinal polarization, average polarization and average alignment of the recoil nucleus, in the case of muon capture from each hyperfine state. Two possible reactions, μ^-+^<13>C(1/2^-1/2; g.s.)→ν_μ+^<13>B(3/2^-3/2; g.s.) and μ^-+^<14>N(1^+0; g.s.)→ν_μ+^<14>C(2^+1; 7.01 MeV), are investigated theoretically in connection with the induced pseudoscalar form factor. Generally, the ratio of the muon capture rates from two hyperfine states, and various nuclear orientations of the recoil nucleus are insensitive to adopted nuclear model, and they are suitable physical quantities to study g_p/g_A.
