Induced Kaluza-Klein theories are investigated by identifying higher modes in harmonic expansions of the fundamental spinor field with Pauli-Villars regulator fields. The regularization conditions provide stringent conditions on the spontaneous choice of the relation between spin and statistics of spinor fields as well as the symmetry structure of the extra-dimensional space.
