Orientational Phase Transition in a Two-Dimensional Molecular Crystal with Random Pairwise Interactions

The orientational phase transition in a two-dimensional molecular crystal with random mixture of pairwise interactions is exactly studied from the statistical-mechanical point of view. Several values of the critical concentrations are obtained depending upon the inequality relations which hold among the pairwise interactions between nearest-neighbouring two molecules. The critical temperature versus concentration curves are given for some typical mixed systems. It is also derived that a mixture of originally nontransitional two systems may exhibit the "ferroic" phase in an intermediate region of the concentration.
