Study on Nonlinear Photocurrent in Photoconductive Switch Using Femtosecond Pulse Laser

Femtosecond pulse lasers with an ultrafast time resolution have been applied to a high-speed devise evaluation, an analysis of chemical reaction process, and an ultrafast spectroscopy. A femtosecond pulse width has been measured typically using a nonlinear crystal built in an autocorrelator. We used a high-speed photoconductive switch instead of a nonlinear crystal for the measurement of the pulse. We measured a nonlinear photocurrent in the GaAs devices by setting the photoconductive switch within an autocorrelator. As a result, a pulse width of 100fs was obtained for the output beam of a CPM (Colliding Pulse Mode-locking) type femtosecond laser with the output power of 40mW. It was considered a two-photon absorption process occurred due to the peak power of the pulses. It was possible to measure a femtosecod pulse width by the photoconductive switch through a nonlinear photocurrent using an autocorrelator.
