An autopsy case of Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease is reported in a 65-year-old woman who developed an abrupt onset of intellectual deterioration and rapidly progressing dementia terminating 20 months after head trauma. Autopsy revealed severe gyral atrophy of the cerebrum, particularly in the frontal lobe and superior temporal gyrus, more prominent on the left side than the right. The brain weighed 900g. Microscopically, the diffuse loss and degeneration of nerve cells and the extreme proliferation of astrocytes were observed throughout the cerebral cortices. Spongy states were seen in few foci of the cerebral cortical layer. Clinico-pathological relationship in this case is discussed.
