Measurement of the oxygen tension in the perilymphatic space of cats was made to assess the net effect of vasoactive agents on cochlear vessels. The intravenous injection of an agent at a time, continuous administration and one drop on the vessels in the internal acoustic meatus did not always indicate the same trend in the perilymphatic oxygen tension. Perilymphatic oxygen tension is dependent upon how the agents were administered. Most marked change in the perilymphatic oxygen tension was detected during the initial 10 to 15 minutes. A significant discordance was discussed between cochlear blood flow and the oxygen tension in the perilymphatic space.
