The response patterns and the frequency-response characteristics of the sensory neurons innervating the L- and S-type mechanoreceptive hairs on the crayfish first antenna were studied with the sinusoidal mechanical stimuli. The direction sensitivity of each neuronal unit was demonstrated similarly with the biphasic sinusoidal waveforms. The cyclic repetition of the sinusoidal waveforms produced an adaptation process expressed by the decrease of the peak impulse frequency. The frequency-response characteristic curves of the A-, V- and D-unit showed a peak sensitivity at about 40 Hz, respectively. The mode of responses was discussed with relation to the water movemeat.
