Afferent impulse discharges of the V-unit (velocity-sensitive unit) belonging to the S-type hair on the crayfish endopodium were studied. The V-unit showed tonic discharge to a certain angular velocity (BAV), and the BAV ranged from 40 to 50 degrees per sec. The direction of the BAV in each unit was opposite and complementary to the paired neuron, which was mostly the A-unit. The function of the V-unit is estimated as the touch receptor.
