Application of several chromaticity co-ordinate systems to histochemical studies was examined in order to describe colors and color differences quantitatively. The model experiments with color cellophane sheets and several dyes revealed that the description by dominant wavelength only was not adequate. For objective description of colors, both of the x, y and Y' system and the U^*V^* and W^* system were satisfactorily applicable in histochemistry of divalent cations.
