We previously developed a unique device using adhesives called the Crystal Catcher (CT-100/-200) for manipulating a protein crystal in solution. Here, we present an improved tool for microcrystals. The new Crystal Catcher (CT-300/-400) adopts a glass-capillary nozzle, and its diameter of 80 μm is smaller than the metal nozzle of the CT-100/-200 (200 μm). The CT-300 and CT-400 enable the capture of small crystals 50 μm in size. The CT-300 and CT-400 are used to capture microcrystals in respective aqueous and organic solutions. We are now able to manipulate crystals of various sizes and under various conditions using the series of Crystal Catcher devices.
