(+)-8,11,13-Abietatriene was converted into (15<I>R</I>)-16-hydroxyferruginol (<B>1a</B>) and its (15<I>S</I>)-epimer (<B>1b</B>) by the introduction of hydroxyl groups at the C-12 and C-16 positions.
