Mechanism of the thermolysis of the titile compound has been proposed, which begins with a homolytic cleavage leading to <I>t</I>-butyl radical and 2,4-di-<I>t</I>-butyl-6-methyl-1-nitrosobenzene. The reaction of the nitrosobenzene with <I>t</I>-butyl radical generated from photolysis of 2,2′-dimethyl-2,2′-azopropane is also described.
