Absorption rates of four diastereoisomers of dimethionine from rat small intestine were measured as the first step of an attempt to find methionine derivatives which are absorbed much more slowly than L-methionine from rat small intestine. The absorption rates of L,D- and D,L-dimethionine were nearly the same and roughly one half of that of the L,L-diastereoisomer. The absorption rate of D,D-dimethionine was far slower than those of the other three diastereoisomers(about one tenth of L,L-dimethionine). The absorption rate of y-L-glutamyl-L-methionine was nearly the same as those of L,D- and D,L-dimethionine.
