Abstract α,β-Unsaturated acid chlorides such as cinnamoyl chloride, 2-ethoxycarbonylacryloyl chloride, fumaroyl chloride, 5-phenyl-2, 4-pentadienoyl chloride, and 2,4-hexadienoyl chloride react with activated alkenes in the presence of a tertiary amine and a catalytic amount of bis (dibenzylideneacetone) palladium(0) to result the formation of conjugated dienes or trienes. The reaction involves a highly efficient decarbonylation of the unsaturated acid chlorides.
