Thirty cases of vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) seen at our clinic were reviewed and its outcome assessed, with special reference to postoperative urinary tract infection. It was shown that the success of operation for VUR has no effect for prophylaxis of recurrent urinary tract infection, then it appears unreasonable to speak of the cure of VUR only from the viewpoint of urinary tract infection. Even if reflux is unilateral, with the affected kidney badly damaged and other kidney normal, simultaneous repair of both kidneys is indicated. Because about 4.5% developed contralateral reflux.
