We studied changes in the levels of isocitric dehydrogenase (ICDH), alcohol dehydrogenase (AlcDH), and sorbitol dehydrogenase (SorbDH) as materials for deciding the prognosis of Manson schistosomiasis. Generally it is said that liver function disorders due to schistosomiasis are dominated by the number of parasites in the liver. Since the distribution of parasites is in many cases not diffuse but localized, it is generally considered that deciding the prognosis by biopsy is difficult. The circumoval precipitation test (COP-test), which is considered to be valuable as an immune reaction due to parasite infection, sometimes shows false positive results and is of no value in deciding the existence of parasites right after infection. From our obsevations, SorbDH seems to increase slightly in advance of a GPT increase. ICDH and AlcDH levels seem to have no relation with the prognosis.
