The effect of chemical bond and atomic size on the amorphous solid structure has been investigated on La-Al and La-Si alloy glasses by pulsed-neutron total scattering and X-ray diffraction. The short-range structure of La-Al alloy glasses is rather close to a random mixture of constituent atoms, while La-Si alloy glasses are much more stabilized by the formation of covalent-like bond between unlike atoms.
