Stable, High-Efficiency Moderator with Tungsten Mesh

A six-overlapping tungsten mesh moderator for variable energy positron beams has been tested. The measured moderation efficiency is 4.5×10^<-4>. This value is comparable to that for a transmission moderator made of a tungsten single-crystal foil. This moderator also exhibits a high stability.
