A planar dc SQUID (Superconducting Quantum Interference Device) with a damping resistor is made, and its currentvoltage characteristics and output voltage as a function of applied magnetic flux are studied. As the result of inserting a damping resistor parallel with the self-inductance of the SQUID loop, self-induced resonance dc components in the current-voltage characteristics are eliminated, and the amplitude ?V of the output voltage increases. Consequently, the value of the flux-to-voltage transfer function also increases compared with that of a dc SQUID without a damping resistor.
