Synthesis and Properties of YBa_2Cu_4O_8 Superconductor by Aerosol Flow Reacting Method

The superconducting phase YBa_2Cu_4O_8. has been synthesized using an aerosol flow reacting method with starting solutions containing stoichiometric compositions of Y/Ba/Cu=1/2/4. The powders obtained were spherical and their diameters were uniformly distributed below 1 μm. The heat treatment was made at about 800℃ for 5 h in flowing oxygen. The sintered bodies fabricated from these powders show the onset of superconducting transition at 80 K. Our result shows that the YBa_2Cu_4O_8 phase can be synthesized in a short time in the form of the fine powder using an aerosol flow reacting method.
