Superconductivity in Artificially Layered (BaAuO_x)(BaCuO_<2+y>)(CaCuO_2)_2 Thin Films

Thin films of (BaAuO_x)(BaCuO_<2+y>)(CaCuO_2)_2 artificial lattices have been grown by the atomic layer-by-layer growth technique with laser molecular beam epitaxy. These materials have a similar crystal structure to CuBa_2Ca_2Cu_3O_x where the Cu site between adjacent BaO layers is replaced by Au. This site-selective substitution brings about a change in the relative intensities of X-ray diffraction pattern peaks and increases the lattice constant c from 1.51 nm to 1.57 nm. This Au-based cuprate film shows zero resistance at 20 K with the onset temperature of 60 K.
