Temperature Dependence of Magnetic Domain Structures in H.C.P. Cobalt Single Crystals

Domain structures as a function of temperature observed on various crystallographical planes of h.c.p. cobalt single crystals are discussed in connection with the sign change of the magnetocrystalline anisotropy constant. The present observation indicates that there are two regions with the easy axis either parallel to (C_<//> domain) or normal to (C_⊥ domain) the c-axis, in the temperature range from about 240℃ (K_<u1>≈0) to about 380℃(K_<u1><0). The change in volume ratio of the two regions is responsible for the gradual change in the resultant easy direction of magnetization in this temperature range.
