1. Using Chlorella as the material, and ^<14>C as a tracer, kinetic studies were performed on the fate of the photogenic agent (denoted by R) which have been detected by CALVIN and BENSON in their " pre-illumination experiment". 2. The processes of photochemical formation and non-photo-chemical decay of R, as well as the process of ^<14>CO_2-fixation caused by R were found to be affected in different manners by cyanide and azide. 3. Based on the theory propounded earlier by the author and his coworkers, the various phenomena occurring in the presence and absence of the poisons were analyzed kinetically. Quantitative data were presented in confirmation of the earlier observations that at 25゜ cyanide inhibits the reaction between R and CO_2 and accelerates the decay of R, while azide inhibits the reaction between R and CO_2, leaving the rate of decay of R apparently unchanged.
